Finance Supervisor
A Finance Supervisor plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of financial operations within an organization. This position involves overseeing a team of accounting or finance professionals, managing daily tasks, and contributing to the overall financial health of the company.
Responsibilities
- Team Leadership and Management: Supervise, train, and mentor a team of financial staff, including accountants, bookkeepers, or financial analysts. Responsibilities include performance evaluations, workload distribution, and fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Financial Reporting and Analysis: Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements. Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and potential areas for improvement.
- General Ledger Management: Ensure the integrity of the general ledger by reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and other accounting records. Investigate and resolve discrepancies as needed.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Participate in the budgeting process by gathering input from various departments and assisting in the development of realistic and achievable budgets. Monitor actual performance against budget and provide variance analysis. Develop financial forecasts to predict future performance and inform strategic decision-making.
- Internal Controls and Compliance: Maintain and enforce strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with accounting standards (GAAP) and other regulatory requirements. Participate in internal and external audits.
- Accounts Payable/Receivable Oversight: Manage the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices, payments, and collections. Resolve complex payment issues and vendor disputes.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls within the finance department. Streamline workflows and automate tasks where possible.
- Financial System Administration: Assist in the maintenance and administration of the company’s financial systems, including accounting software and reporting tools. Troubleshoot system issues and collaborate with IT support as needed.
- Liaison and Communication: Serve as a liaison between the finance department and other departments within the organization. Communicate financial information and insights to stakeholders at all levels.
- Tax Compliance: Assist with the preparation and filing of tax returns, ensuring compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in accounting or finance, with supervisory experience.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP) and financial reporting requirements.
- Proficiency in using accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
