Call to Order

Sarah Miller called the meeting to order at 7:03 PM.

Approval of Minutes

The minutes from the September 28, 2023 meeting were reviewed. Michael Rodriguez moved to approve the minutes, and Jessica Brown seconded the motion. The minutes were approved unanimously.

Treasurer’s Report

David Lee presented the Treasurer’s Report. The current account balance is $5,428.76. Investment income for the past month was $32.15. David also highlighted upcoming dividend payouts from several holdings. A brief discussion ensued regarding potential investment fees and strategies to minimize them. David agreed to research alternative brokerage options with lower fees and present his findings at the next meeting.

Old Business

Review of Portfolio Performance: The club reviewed the performance of the current portfolio. Overall, the portfolio is up 8.5% year-to-date, slightly underperforming the S&P 500. Individual stock performance was analyzed, with specific attention given to underperforming assets. Members discussed potential reasons for the underperformance, including market volatility and industry-specific challenges. A decision was made to hold onto the underperforming stocks for another quarter and reassess the situation based on Q4 earnings reports.

New Business

Investment Proposal: Michael Rodriguez presented a proposal to invest in renewable energy company, “Solaris Technologies” (Ticker: SLRX). He outlined the company’s financial performance, growth potential, and competitive advantages within the renewable energy sector. The club engaged in a thorough discussion, considering potential risks and rewards associated with the investment. Concerns were raised regarding the company’s debt levels and regulatory challenges facing the renewable energy industry. Emily Chen moved to table the proposal until the next meeting to allow members to conduct further due diligence. Kevin Wilson seconded the motion. The motion passed.

Investment Education: Jessica Brown suggested dedicating a portion of each meeting to investment education. She proposed presenting on various investment topics, such as understanding financial statements, analyzing market trends, and managing risk. The club agreed to incorporate a 15-minute investment education segment into future meetings. Jessica volunteered to present on “Understanding P/E Ratios” at the next meeting.
